Beetles y’all!

I thank ‘God’ for his “inordinate fondness for beetles”, they’re just such wonderful creatures. Here in NZ they don’t subscribe to the dull and cryptic trends found in many of our flora and fauna – if you’ve seen a Manuka chafer or steelblue ladybird you’ll know NZ beetles are out and proud.

 

But this isn’t always the case, and a personal favorite of mine, the Huhu, is rather cryptically coloured. But it’s tough ‘shell‘ and dangerous nippers make it quite a formidable foe if you’re trying to relocate one from your living room.
